Introducing A.I. for College Students

Module 17 Walkthrough

Building Your Resume & Professional Profile

You'll learn

  • Why a strong base resume beats a frozen one — and beats rewriting from scratch
  • How to write accomplishment statements using the XYZ pattern that any recruiter recognizes
  • How to use A.I. to mine your own experience for stories you forgot were strong
  • How to format a resume that survives ATS parsing without sacrificing the human read
  • How to build a professional network profile that runs in parallel to your resume

Labs

  • Demo Lab 17.1: Build Sam's Base Resume
  • Discovery 17.A: Mine a Past Role
  • Discovery 17.B: Audit an Existing Resume
  • Discovery 17.C: Write the About Section

Concepts introduced

  • The base-resume mindset: one strong base, tailored quickly each time — not a frozen artifact, not a rewrite
  • Resume anatomy — the five sections every base resume needs: header, education, experience, projects, skills
  • The XYZ accomplishment pattern: action verb + what you did + quantified impact
  • A.I. as accomplishment archaeologist — pulling stories out of jobs you forgot were strong
  • ATS-friendly formatting and the honest way to use keywords
  • Your profile on the primary professional network — public, searchable, parallel to your resume
  • The interview-defense test: every line should be one you could happily talk about for five minutes

Content

Opens the career-preparation arc by reframing the resume as a base artifact — written once and tailored quickly for every application. Students walk the five sections that always belong, learn the XYZ accomplishment pattern (action verb + what you did + quantified impact), and meet A.I. as an accomplishment archaeologist — a tool for pulling stories out of jobs you did not realize were strong. The module covers ATS-friendly formatting, the honest use of keywords, and how to build a parallel profile on the primary professional network. It closes with the interview-defense test — every line on the page should be one you could happily talk about for five minutes. The Demo Lab walks the XYZ pattern through Sam's IT Help Desk job; Discovery Labs apply the workflow to your own past roles and existing resumes.

Outcomes

  • Write accomplishment statements using the XYZ pattern that quantify real impact.
  • Use A.I. to mine messy job descriptions for candidate XYZ statements you can verify and rewrite in your own voice.
  • Format a one-page resume for both ATS parsing and human readability.
  • Draft a parallel About section for your primary professional network profile.
  • Produce a finished base resume that passes the interview-defense test on every line.
